Planned WWE Day 1 Championship Match Now Nixed?

The Raw Tag Team Championship match originally planned for the January 1 WWE Day 1 pay-per-view may not happen, as per a new report.

It was noted in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Randy Orton & Matt Riddle were originally scheduled to defend their title against the winners of the RK-Bro-nament.

It had previously been reported that the Street Profits vs Mysterios tournament final was pushed back from the December 13 episode of Raw to the December 27 show due to an issue regarding Montez Ford.

Meltzer now reports that this bout is no longer being advertised for Monday’s episode, and it’s currently ‘unclear’ whether or not the match will happen.

A number of WWE stars and staff notably tested positive for COVID-19 following last weekend’s live event loop. At the time, it was reported that WWE’s hope was that WWE Day 1 was far enough away that those who tested positive would be cleared to compete come January 1.

We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
