Recently Departed WWE Star Explains How They Signed With The Company WWE

After his recent departure, former WWE star Donovan Dijak has explained how he originally signed with the company.

Donovan Dijak departed from WWE after a seven year stint on June 28 following the company decided to not renew his deal.

In a new interview with Tru Heel Heat Wrestling, Donovan Dijak was asked about his ROH run helping him get signed to WWE in 2017. On getting originally signed to the company, he said:

“I think it [his time in ROH] played a role. It was about two years, the beginning of 2015 to the beginning of 2017, I think it played a role for sure.”

“I don’t know if anybody sits down and watches that stuff, I think they’re just generally aware of it, maybe I’m wrong.”

“At that time it was William Regal, I don’t know who it is now, maybe it’s still Regal since he left and came back, but I knew that Regal was that guy in terms of the indies at that point.”

“He was doing a seminar at the school I’m currently a trainer at, and I was training at that point, but I was on my honeymoon because I had just gotten married so the dates didn’t match up and I couldn’t go to the seminar, but I wanted to talk to him because I knew my Ring Of Honor contract was coming up, so I reached out to him and emailed him and that sort of got the ball rolling in terms their interest.”

“Do I think being in Ring of Honor helped? Yeah I think they were aware I was in Ring of Honor, it’s not like I had a bunch of marquee matches.”

“There was a litany of great matches and opportunities for me in Ring of Honor, but when the time came for me to make a decision between Ring of Honor and WWE, my goal was always WWE, and I don’t think I was ever shy about that.”

On hearing of the original talks of AEW back when he signed with WWE, Dijak said:

“The interesting part of it was that the real bare bones of AEW was starting to form at that point, so it felt like maybe there was a bit of a trend in that direction.”

“Nobody said this to me, but the feeling I got was ‘hey we want you to stick around, we’ve got some big things on the horizon’, and it turns out they did.”

“My head at the time I sort of questioned that, if you’re being this vague about it there’s probably not a lot set in stone, and you’re not really offering much in terms of money or creative direction.”

“WWE at that time was big on big guys and they kinda liked indies guys too and I was like, I’m the best of both worlds, let me try my hand there, and I ended up there for seven years. It had it’s peaks and valleys but that’s how Ring of Honor played a role in my development.”
