WWE
A WWE talent departure has been confirmed, with WWE moving a former champion to the alumni section of the roster.
It was reported on Monday (October 6) that Santos Escobar’s WWE contract was set to expire that midnight, unless a last-minute deal was made.
WWE has now removed Escobar from the Current Superstars roster page on WWE.com, as you can see in the screenshot below. Santos Escobar now appears in the alumni section of the website, confirming his departure.
It was previously reported that Escobar had turned down a higher monetary value to remain with WWE.
With Escobar’s contract expiring, he now enters free agency and is able to wrestle without the restriction of a ninety-day non-compete clause.
Escobar signed with WWE in August 2019 and went on to hold the NXT Cruiserweight Championship.
His most recent match saw Legado Del Fantasma on the losing end of their SuperShow Mexico match against Mr Iguana, Pagano & Psycho Clown in July.
As previously noted, Angel and Berto of Los Garza were in action on the recent episode of SmackDown, without Escobar.
We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
