Former Champions Officially Leave WWE WWE

An update has emerged on the statuses of James Drake (Jagger Reid) and Zack Gibson (Rip Fowler), amid speculation about their WWE departures.

It was widely reported, that the Grizzled Young Veterans (aka The Dyad) were expected to leave WWE, with  reports indicating that the WWE contracts of NXT stars James Drake and Zack Gibson were set to expire on Saturday, October 14.

Well, it’s now Saturday, and Fightful Select has confirmed that James Drake and Zack Gibson are now free agents.

The former NXT UK Tag Team Champions previously confirmed in April that WWE denied their release requests.

It was reported in August that the belief was that Drake and Gibson still planned to leave WWE once their contracts were up, before NXT commentator Booker T noted in mid-September that the duo were indeed letting their contracts run out.

Drake and Gibson recently teased that a ‘new chapter’ of their careers will begin today, hinting that an announcement is coming.

The duo, who previously wrestled as the Grizzled Young Veterans, both made their WWE debuts as part of the NXT UK brand.

While Drake competed in the inaugural UK Championship Tournament in 2017, Gibson first wrestled for WWE in the 2018 edition of the tournament, which he ultimately won.

The former NXT UK Tag Team Champions were rebranded as The Dyad in July 2022, part of Joe Gacy’s Schism faction, with Drake renamed ‘Jagger Reid’, and Gibson wrestling as ‘Rip Fowler’.

The duo most recently wrestled on the August 29 edition of WWE NXT, losing to the Creed Brothers in a steel cage bout.

That was their last appearance on TV for the company.
