The Elite may have re-signed with AEW, but WWE was particularly interested in Kenny Omega according to a recent report.
With Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks and Hangman Adam Page signing a multi-year deal with AEW, Tony Khan has recently spoken about the decision.
Although the contracts still had several months to run, recent reports have suggested that the money offered by AEW was enough to get them to sign on the dotted line early, with Dave Meltzer saying:
“Obviously the numbers financially were very high, because if they weren’t very high, they wouldn’t have signed at this point because they had until the end of the year to negotiate.
“Obviously AEW and Tony wanted them signed now and made it worth their while financially to sign now.”

Meltzer would also reveal that there had been a back-and-forth discussion between the members of the Elite over whether to stay with AEW or move to WWE (or somewhere else).
It was reported that they had a pact to move as a collective, however, with no sign that any of the individual members would stay or go without the others.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer also revealed the level of interest from WWE, saying:
“WWE did have interest in all of them, especially Omega. They had great interest in Omega in particular.”

With The Elite not being free agents, it had previously been reported that the ongoing lawsuit with MLW had meant WWE wouldn’t engage with contracted AEW wrestlers.
The lawsuit between MLW and WWE has seen the Endeavor-owned company accused of “many years of egregious anticompetitive behavior.”
WWE commented on the lawsuit yesterday, which you can read about at this link.
