Former WWE Star Admits He Got Emotional During Backlash 2023 Match WWE

Backlash 2023 featured not only the return of some Puerto Rican WWE alumni, but also a career-highlight moment for one currently active Puerto Rican star.

The Latino World Order’s Zelina Vega would challenge Rhea Ripley for the Smackdown Women’s Championship in front of her home country crowd, and her family at ringside.

Both before the bell rang and after the match, a visibly emotional Vega would take in the incredible response from the San Juan crowd, something that a former WWE talent would admit made him emotional upon watching.

Former WWE wrestler and announcer Ricardo Rodriguez took to Twitter in response to the match and cited a personal experience from his own time in the company that Vega’s moment reminded him of.

Rodriguez tweeted:

“Years ago we did WWE TV in Mexico City and I can not begin to tell you how much that meant to me.

“To be representing our people . It may not mean a lot to many. But I legit shed a tear seeing @ZelinaVegaWWE as she stood within hers. I felt that moment.”

Vega would be unsuccessful in her pursuit of the Ripley’s championship despite her great showing, eventually being pinned following a Riptide.

After the match, Vega’s husband, AEW star Malakai Black would tweet out a message of support for his wife, click here to find out more.
