A former WWE name has criticized what they see as AEWs “bigger issue” following a recent episode of AEW Dynamite.
Despite Tony Khan having adopted a new method of booking shows that involves flipping columns and rows, this “more organized” approach to the creative process hasn’t hit home with Eric Bischoff’s appreciation of the AEW product.
Speaking on a recent episode of Strictly Business, Bischoff looked at the February 8 AEW Dynamite, saying:
“I think the bigger issue with AEW is definitely its formatting, but its lack of story structure.
“Based on what I saw this morning — ’cause I watched it, I DVR’d it — it’s just random. There’s no continuity on the show.”
Bischoff would explore the match between AEW World Champion MJF and Konosuke Takeshita, going on to say that it has nothing to do with the story that AEW are building between MJF and Bryan Danielson.
He would also go on to say that Takeshita was too new of a character to be used in such a spot effectively.
Co-host Jon Alba would explain the rationale for Takeshita being involved, though Bischoff would suggest that what the AEW audience would expect from a story like this didn’t meet Bischoff’s expectations.
He would also compare the episode of AEW Dynamite to WWE Raw, stating:
“I watched three hours of Monday Night Raw that flew by, and I watched two hours of AEW that I had to force myself to watch.”
His analysis of AEW Dynamite would be that it was “painful” to watch with most of the wrestling being “marginal”.
Recently, Konnan referred to Tony Khan as a “mega hardcore mark” who caters to that niche.
Tony Khan, who revealed that he still loves engaging with internet wrestling fans, has not yet responded to Bischoff’s comments at the time of writing.
