Back on April 15, WWE furloughed a number of their backstage staff. Among them were several producers, such as Lance Storm, Shane Helms, Dave Finlay, and Billy Kidman. Now, it has been reported that the company is extending those furloughs to August 28, 2020.
Dave Meltzer reported the news in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer mentioned that a number of those furloughed have started looking for new jobs. However, this is one of the worst times to be looking for a new job.
The initial idea was those who were furloughed would be back to work by the beginning of August. Clearly now that is not the case.
WWE reported $43.8 million in profit at their quarterly meeting yesterday. This number did not take into account anyone who lost their jobs as they were still being paid until July 17. This just goes to show that the company did not need to release anyone to maintain their profit margins.
One person who was furloughed who has already been brought back was Pat Buck. Buck was furloughed on April 15, but appeared backstage on Raw during an angle with Nia Jax.
