WWE Files For Bizarre Trademark

WWE Files For Bizarre Trademark

WWE has recently filed for a bizarre new trademark with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO).

On March 19, WWE filed to trademark “SWING IS IN THE AIR”. According to USPTO, this trademark will allow WWE to use this phrase for “Entertainment Services”, including across all WWE’s media channels.

The following description accompanied the filing:

“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment”

A play on “spring is in the air”, it is currently not clear what WWE plans to use this trademark for. It could be related to Cesaro, who has used the nickname “The King of Swing” for years.

Cesaro has recently been using his “Giant Swing” to one-up Seth Rollins on SmackDown. After Rollins’ victory over Shinsuke Nakamura at Fastlane, it seems like Cesaro and Rollins could do battle at WrestleMania 37.
