Former WWE Star To Challenge For AEW Star’s Championship

Former WWE Star To Challenge For AEW Star’s Championship WWE/AEW

AEW’s Chris Jericho is now set to defend his ROH World Championship against a former WWE star, with the match confirmed for Final Battle.

Ahead of the December 20 pay-per-view, ROH has confirmed that Jericho will face Matt Cardona at the event, with the ROH World Title on the line.

This comes after a segment on ROH TV which saw Matt Cardona make his surprise debut on his brand, with the former WWE star confronting Jericho in the ring.

During the pre taped segment – which you can watch below – Cardona told Jericho that ‘Zack (Ryder) is dead’, and that the name of the man who will challenge for his championship at Final Battle is Matt Cardona.

Cardona took to Twitter after the bout to share a graphic for the match, writing:

NYC. HAMMERSTEIN BALLROOM. @ringofhonor WORLD TITLE.

@IAmJericho vs. THE COMPLETE!

While Cardona has appeared on AEW TV before, most recently facing Adam Copeland for the TNT Championship on Collision in March, this was the former WWE star’s first appearance for ROH.

Jericho has been the ROH World Champion since the October 23 Dynamite episode, when he defeated Mark Briscoe in a Ladder War match to win the gold.
