Former WWE star PJ Black has opened up about his current injury, calling it the worst injury he’s ever had.
Black hasn’t wrestled since the May 30 ROH taping, during which he took on Lee Johnson in singles action.
During the Developmentally Speaking podcast, the former ‘Justin Gabriel’ noted that he’s currently recovering from the worst injury he’s ever had to deal with.
Believing that he would’ve done more with AEW/ROH if he didn’t get injured, Black noted:
“I’m doing fantastic. Just going through some heavy recovery stuff, but other than that, I’m alright. This is probably the worst injury I’ve ever had.
“I’ve been wrestling for 27 years. This is the first time I’ve been injured in the ring, and it’s gonna be about six months or so, so we’ll see how that goes. I just got to put the time in.”
“I got injured at AEW, at the ROH tapings when they came to LA. I feel if I didn’t get injured, that probably would have gone somewhere for sure, and (I’m) really sad about that. But I’m trying not to dwell on that and get too depressed.
“Now I’m kind of back at square one. Gotta heal this wheel first and then see what the next step is, so kind of just focusing on getting better and then getting back to where I was.”
Explaining what his future looks like while recovering, Black said:
“For the next few months, I’m just focusing on getting better. I’m on my last week of crutches. I’ve been on crutches for six weeks. I can kind of walk, finally. Now it’s the next step. I’ve gotta do rehab every day. I don’t really have time for much, just rehab every single day.
“Go to the physio, go to the hyperbaric chamber, red light therapy, go for the massages, and then obviously the strengthening stuff. That takes a lot of time. I have to rebuild all those muscles around the knee. It’s gonna take a long time. It’s a long journey, so I’m just kind of trying to focus on this right now so I can at least get back to the ring.”
Black didn’t specify the nature of his injury during the interview.
AEW star Eddie Kingston has also shared an update on his status after months away from the ring, which you can read more about right here.
