WWE & Former TNA Name Didn’t Come To ‘Financial Agreement’ For Worlds Collide Role WWE

WWE and a former TNA Wrestling name reportedly couldn’t come to a “financial agreement” for a role at Saturday’s Worlds Collide show.

In what was the first official collaboration between WWE and AAA following the announcement of WWE’s impending acquisition of the Mexican promotion, Worlds Collide took over the Kia Forum in Inglewood, CA on Saturday June 7.

The show was well received by many fans and was also seemingly a big success for WWE, with the company touting record-breaking viewership numbers for the show on YouTube.

While the show featured surprise appearances from WWE stars Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan, one name reportedly discussed for a role ahead of the event did not end up materialising – that being former WCW and TNA commentator Mike Tenay.

While reports ahead of Worlds Collide could not confirm whether Tenay had been formally contacted by WWE to provide commentary for the show, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer has now provided an update on the situation.

According to Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Daily Update, WWE did in fact call Tenay regarding a role at Worlds Collide, however, the two sides did not come to a “financial agreement”.

Tenay made his WCW commentary debut back at the original WCW & AAA When Worlds Collide show in November 1994, spending seven years with the company until it was purchased by WWE in 2001 – he would then spend 14 years in TNA, being inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame in 2023 alongside former commentary partner Don West.
