WWE’s Gunther Reveals Why Sheamus Was A ‘Great Opponent’ WWE

GUNTHER has reflected on his championship match at WWE Clash at the Castle facing Sheamus in Cardiff, Wales.

The Premium Live Event took place on September 3, 2022 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff with an attendance of 62,296.

It was the first major WWE televised live show to be held in the UK since SummerSlam 1992 and drew an $8.0 million live gate.

The match between Sheamus and GUNTHER was widely praised by fans and was given five stars by Dave Meltzer.

The Intercontinental Champion has recently reflected on whether he’s had time to take in the acclaimed match in an interview with Fightful, saying:

“The thing is, I guess to some degree, but everything happens so fast that it’s very hard to actually sit back sometimes and enjoy or reflect on what happened and stuff like that. Overall, it was great.

“I think Clash at the Castle was good for me because it was the first big pay-per-view match for me, or PLE as we say now. I could just showcase myself, showcase to the audience what I do.”

GUNTHER would also praise is opponent in the match, going on to say:

“I think the style of match I put on is nothing they have really seen on that scale before. I think that’s why it stood out and why it was special, and Sheamus was a great opponent. He doesn’t stop, so you really gotta put a lot of effort into keeping the guy down.”

GUNTHER has become the second-longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion in the company’s history, surpassing Pedro Morales’ 424 day reign.

The longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion is Honky Tonk Man, with a possible interaction something that GUNTHER doesn’t see as beneficial.

Chad Gable recently defeated Ricochet, Matt Riddle, and Tommaso Ciampa to determine the next number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship.

The date for the Gable vs GUNTHER match is, at the time of writing, not known.
