WWE Star Addresses Potential Match With John Cena At WrestleMania 39

Yet another WWE star has commented about potentially facing John Cena at WrestleMania 39 this coming April.

With all the speculation lately about Cena possibly returning to the ring at Mania for his first match since SummerSlam 2021, we’ve already had hints from the likes of LA Knight, Logan Paul, and the most likely candidate, Austin Theory, that they’d all be up for being Cena’s opponent.

Another name who’s come up among fans is WWE’s current Intercontinental Champion, Gunther, who has yet to be beaten in a singles match since his move to the main roster seven months ago.

In an interview on Ten Count, Gunther addressed all the talk of a potential Cena match, saying:

“Of course, we could see it. I don’t know what’s going to happen or if it’s going to happen. Obviously, that’s something I would love to do.

“John Cena is one of the legends. Because he’s not really active at the moment anymore, he just pops up, but when he does, if the chance is there for me, I’ll gladly take it.

“One of, if not the most popular babyface in this sport of all time. I think I would be a great counterpart to that. I would love to do it.”

In a somewhat incredible stat, John Cena is not a WWE Grand Slam Champion, because he’s never held the Intercontinental Title in his career.

With Gunther being the current holder of that very championship, and seemingly no plans for him to drop it anytime soon, Cena’s quest for the Intercontinental Title and the Grand Slam accolade is probably among the more interesting stories WWE could tell with him at this point, and as Gunther pointed out, the contrast between him and Cena would make them great foes anyway.

Gunther’s most recent defence of his title came on the November 4 edition of SmackDown (taped October 28) against another Cena-esque legend in the form of Rey Mysterio.
