Plans for a WWE Hall of Famer to make their AEW return on this Saturday’s Collision were reportedly scrapped.
Saturday’s show is set to take over the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC, with WWE Hall of Famers The Rock N’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) set to make a special appearance on that broadcast, and the January 22 episode of Dynamite in Knoxville, TN.
According to PWInsider however, a different hometown legend was set to make an appearance on Saturday’s show, that being 16-time world champion Ric Flair.
The report notes that at one point Flair was scheduled to appear at the taping, but is now no longer set to appear.
Flair’s role was said to be a “cameo”, with no further details as to what specifically the Nature Boy would be doing on the show or why the plans were scrapped.
Flair first appeared on AEW TV in October 2023, being presented as a gift to Sting ahead of his in-ring retirement tour.
The two-time WWE Hall of Famer appeared alongside Sting on several occasions up until and including his final in-ring contest at AEW Revolution in March 2024.
Since Sting’s retirement Flair’s status in AEW has been unclear, with it being reported in mid-2024 that he was not being factored into creative plans at that time.
