The duo of Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams have taken NXT by storm recently, with Hayes capturing the NXT North American Championship from Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott back on October 12.
The duo worked a dark match at last night’s (November 12) SmackDown taping, a losing tag team effort against the Viking Raiders, but the defeat hasn’t hampered how WWE views the pair.
Jon Alba took to Twitter today, where he said that he had spoken to people in WWE who said there are ‘high hopes’ for the pair, with those he spoke to saying they looked like ‘stars’.
“In talking to some people in #WWE last night, there are high hopes for the combo of Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams. The two worked a dark match last night on #Smackdown . Very favorable opinions from those I spoke with, several saying they looked like “stars.
As I’ve said in the past here, Carmelo Hayes has had a lot of support from higher-ups in NXT, especially coming out of the Adam Cole match. I talked about it a couple of weeks ago and stand by it, I think a spring season call-up and push is very possible. #WWE”

Hayes and Williams were not the only NXT stars to work dark matches last night, as the other dark match saw Dakota Kai best Cora Jade.
