WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry has praised Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams’ rivalry, calling it the ‘new Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn’.

Trick Williams made his WWE television debut on the debut episode of NXT 2.0 back in September 2021, where he was paired up with then-NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes.

Trick and Melo’s partnership came to an end at NXT Vengeance Day in 2024, with them facing off in the main event of Stand & Deliver that year, with Trick beating Hayes in his final NXT match.

Trick made his way up to the WWE main roster back in January, with him now reigning as United States Champion on SmackDown, and facing Carmelo Hayes for the first time on the main roster on last night’s SmackDown.

Mark Henry Praises Trick Williams & Carmelo Hayes As ‘The New Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn’

Speaking about the match on Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry praised the match between the two, comparing their rivalry to that of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, and Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

He said:

“Trick Williams and Melo, I think this is the new Johnny Gargano (and) Ciampa. This is the new Kevin Owens and Sami. This is a long brewing, long-lasting deal, because they started as friends first. They warred with each other.

“You gotta understand the dynamic of these guys; Carmelo was the principal, and Trick was the understudy. Carmelo was having the main event matches on NXT when Trick was standing on the floor watching, learning what it took to be the guy.

“Somewhere along the line it flipped because cream rises to the top, now they look at each other as equals, as adversaries, but they respect each other.

“So these guys went at it, and we had one hell of a match. Trick Williams is one hell of a talent, he gets your attention right off the bat, but Carmelo Hayes, talent wise, skill wise, toughness, enduring. Where is the weakness? There isn’t one.

“It was everything I wanted it to be.”

Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams’ Future Rivalry

Last night’s WWE SmackDown show was the first time that Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams faced off in their main roster WWE careers, with Williams picking up the win.

With Trick and Melo now on the same roster, and Trick holding the title that Hayes lost prior to WrestleMania, this likely won’t be the only time we see the two face off this year.

Both Hayes and Williams have achieved success during their runs on the main roster, with them likely to face off many more times in the future.
