Two new WWE Champions will be crowned at an independent promotion over SummerSlam weekend this coming August.
The inaugural WWE ID Champions will be revealed at Game Changer Wrestling’s The ID Showcase in Rutherford, New Jersey on August 1.
With a number of prospects from the WWE independent wrestler development program already announced for the show, details have emerged of the championship matches.
In February, it was announced that WWE ID would have two championships up for grabs, with the recipients being decided in a tournament.
The finals of the tournament will take place at The ID Showcase, with the official WWE ID Twitter account revealing participants, tweeting:
“BREAKING NEWS….
“The first WWE ID Champions will be determined on August 1st during #SummerSlam weekend in Rutherford, NJ when @GCWrestling_ presents The ID Showcase!
“The Women’s ID Championship will be determined in a Triple Threat Match!It will be Kylie Rae vs. Zara Zakher vs. Zayda Steel
“The Men’s ID Championship will be a singles match. The participants will be determined on July 19th when House Of Champions presents The ID Showcase in Orlando.”
The House of Champions ID Showcase was announced on the WWE ID Twitter account, confirming that Timothy Thatcher, The Vanity Project (WWE Evolve Champion Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor, Ricky Smokes, Bryce Donovan & Zayda Steel), Adrenaline Drip (Jack Cartwheel & Cappuccino Jones), Sean Legacy, Ice Williams and It’s Gal would all be in attendance.
The Vanity Project formed a gauntlet of opponents for Ricky Saints on the July 8 episode of NXT, but were unable to deliver victory.
Saints has now chosen the stipulation for his match against NXT North American Champion Ethan Page at The Great American Bash, opting for ‘Falls Count Anywhere’.
WWE SummerSlam takes place on August 2 & 3 at the Metlife Stadium in Rutherford, New Jersey.
