The WWE ID program was recently launched and two NXT champions have shared their thoughts on what it offers independent wrestlers.
The launch of WWE ID took place on October 29, 2024, with the “first-of-its-kind developmental program” and is “designed to provide up-and-coming independent wrestlers a pathway to a potential career in WWE.”
Among the schools who have received WWE ID designation are those owned by Seth Rollins and Booker T, both of whom have commented on the program launch.
With NXT being seen as a developmental platform for independent wrestling stars, Roxanne Perez and Trick Williams have discussed the WWE Independent Development program during an appearance on the ESPR Wrestling Podcast.
The NXT Women’s Champion spoke about the “amazing” opportunity and the involvement of Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling school, saying:
“It’s amazing. So many more opportunities for all those men, women on the independent scene that have been fighting for a spot here and now it’s gonna be a little bit easier to fight for that spot.
“I think it’s really, really cool that Reality of Wrestling gets to be a part of it. That’s where I came from. But now, to see all of my peers that are still down there that now they’re gonna be able to get seen and get so many more opportunities, I’m really happy. It makes my heart so happy.”
The NXT Champion would echo Perez’s thoughts, going on to say:
“Agreed. People work very hard for opportunities and I like to work with people who I know love what we do as much as I do and we have the athletes here and I’m sure they love it too but, also shout out to the people who invest and commit their lives to this game, to what we do every single week so I’m glad they get opportunities as well.”
The official WWE ID Twitter account recently shared a tease as to the identity of the first signing.
It has recently been reported that Gabe Sopolsky, former ROH and Evolve booker, would be part of those overseeing the WWE ID program.
The report also noted that WWE are planning to “improve” its affiliated schools “across the board”.
Triple H has commented on the WWE ID launch, noting the incredible “level of talent” on the independent wrestling scene.
