WWE Star Addresses Rumor That Infamous Angle Was A Punishment WWE

Former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston has addressed rumors about a previous angle being a punishment from those backstage.

Newer WWE fans won’t remember that when Kingston was first introduced to WWE TV in 2007, he had a Jamaican accent and Caribbean character, despite hailing from Ghana.

Kingston’s lack of accent was addressed live on air when Triple H asked him ‘aren’t you supposed to be Jamaican, what happened to your accent?’ in a Raw segment in 2009.

A WWE fan took to Twitter to recall a rumor that this was intended to embarrass Kingston after he answered a phone call to a WWE higher-up without his accent, breaking kayfabe.

Kingston retweeted this post with the caption:

A time long ago, when Kayfabe was still around… 🤣

In a previous interview, Kingston recalled his mother telling the BBC that he was actually Ghanaian during an interview while he was still performing with his Jamaican gimmick.
