An update has emerged on AJ Styles’ status following his match having to be stopped due to an injury on SmackDown.
Styles made his in-ring return on Friday’s (October 4) SmackDown episode, facing off against Carmelo Hayes in singles action.
The match abruptly ended after the referee called of the bout due to Styles seemingly suffering an ankle injury.
Styles was helped to the back, and it was noted later in the show that Styles had been taken to a local hospital to be checked over.
While the presentation of the moment led many to believe that it was a planned angle, slow motion footage revealed that Styles legitimately dropped Hayes on his ankle in the closing moments of the match, leading to speculation about whether or not this was a planned spot.
Sean Ross Sapp has provided clarification on the situation on Fightful Select, confirming that the injury angle was planned, and that Styles is fine.
Because Hayes won the bout via referees decision, he has now earned a shot at LA Knight’s US Championship.
We will continue to provide updates on the situation as they become available.
