WWE has recently had interest in signing a top free agent according to a new report.

It has been a busy start to the year for WWE when it comes to new signings, with former AEW stars Penta and Ricky Saints both debuting in January and February respectively and the likes of Rey Fenix, Malakai Black and Miro also linked to joining the company.

One name that has not been among those rumored WWE signings is Jeff Cobb, with the veteran star who has been a staple of NJPW for the better part of the last decade and has been competing in the promotion as recently as this week.

According to several sources, Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that WWE has “had their eye on Cobb as of late”, with the 42-year-old star raising eyebrows regarding his future with comments after losing a match last month.

As detailed in Fightful’s report Cobb said:

“So where does that leave Jeff Cobb? It seems I can’t win when all the marbles are down. G1, New Japan Cup. Long gone are the days when I went 8-0 in the G1. Now I can’t even break .500.

“Where does that leave Jeff Cobb? Maybe it’s time to take my bags and go somewhere else. I don’t know. I don’t know.”

One source even told Fightful that Cobb had appeared on WWE’s internal roster as of late, however, this couldn’t yet be confirmed.

When Fightful spoke with AEW sources regarding Cobb they were told that he wasn’t expected to join their company.

We will provide further updates on Cobb’s future and potential move to WWE as more information becomes available.
