Downstait Guitarist Says They Were ‘Thrown A Curveball’ Creating Former WWE Star’s New Theme WWE

Justin Call, the guitarist of Downstait, has reflected on the ‘curveball’ the band were thrown when creating a former WWE star’s new theme.

The American rock band are well remembered as the creators of WWE Champion Cody Rhodes’ theme “Kingdom”, among the many pro-wrestling entrance themes they also helped bring to life.

More recently, the band created a new post-WWE entrance theme for former Women’s Tag Team Champion Isla Dawn, who was released in February.

During a recent appearance on the Ropes N Riffs Podcast, Call looked back at the creative process behind “The Brightest One“, which you can listen to below.

Noting that it was nice to be thrown a curveball, Call explained:

“Our expectations were to do something darker. That’s what we were expecting to do, but in our initial conversation, she was just like, I love… I think it was like Radio Disney pop rock.

“She sent me a couple samples, I was like, ‘Wow, this is not where I thought we were going with this’, but it was nice to be thrown a curveball and to get to do something challenging and new.

“I think she was playing it close to the vest, so we just got the musical references, not a whole lot of character stuff.”
