The real reason that Ivar of the Viking Raiders has been written off WWE television in an injury angle has been revealed.
UPDATE: Despite Dave Meltzer’s below report, Ivar has issued a statement clarifying the situation:
There has been alot of misinformation floating around about me. Let me clarify:
Yes I am injured – Yes it is very serious – No I have not had surgery
Still trying to figure out all options and what this means for my future.
That being said, I Want to thank everyone for the out pouring of love and support, not only after finding out I was injured but thru out the last several months, I have heard you all!
No matter what happens, I owe it to everyone who ever believed in me to do everything I can to get back in that ring, under those lights, and infront of the most amazing fans on the planet, see you ass soon as I can!
On the May 14 episode of WWE NXT, Ivar was the subject of an attack by the returning Gallus which saw him declared ‘out of action indefinitely’.
Dave Meltzer has now addressed Ivar’s ‘injury’ storyline in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, writing:
Ivar was announced as being injured from an attack by Gallus.
He’s just being given time off because he’s been working so hard of late but it’s nothing serious and just an angle.
Ivar will be replaced by Apollo Crews in the May 22 edition of WWE Speed, facing Tyler Bate.
His tag team partner, Erik, underwent neck fusion surgery in September 2023, with Ivar revealing that Erik is ‘doing great, but it’s slow and steady’.
Andrews Sports Medicine recently shared a photo of Ivar on Twitter, to thank him for “trusting in Dr. Andrew Cordover and his team to help (him) achieve victory over injury” – Ivar had shouted out Dr Cordover during the latest episode of NXT for helping him recover from his own career-threatening injury a couple of years ago.
