WWE Stars Wants ‘Seat At The Table’ For Underrepresented Culture WWE

A WWE star has revealed that they want a “seat at the table” for a culture that they feel is currently underrepresented on the roster.

While WWE does pride itself on the diversity of its roster, Jinder Mahal has identified an underrepresentation of one particular culture that he hopes can be corrected.

Speaking during an appearance on WWE’s After the Bell, The Maharaja said:

“It’s incredible (representing my culture in WWE). I love it.

“Obviously WWE prides itself on its diversity and inclusion of everybody, all different cultures but, I do still believe South Asians are underrepresented in WWE.

“One-in-five people walking on earth right now are South Asian or South Asian heritage and that’s a huge chunk of the population. So diversity matters and it matters for everybody and it should be equal, right?

“So, we just want a seat at the table to represent our culture, represent our people and India itself is such a diverse country.

“There’s so many different languages and cultures within India so all three of us (Mahal & Indus Sher), we represent a different part.

“It’s incredible and I was hearing rumblings of possibly a Performance Center opening up in India. I know we have the NXT Europe opening up so I would love NXT Asia, NXT India to maybe be next.”

It was recently reported that WWE would be holding a premium live event in India and that it is likely to take place in September.

Previously, it was reported that WWE and Sony Sports Network had combined forces to launch a media campaign to create “a deeper engagement with the youth.”

NXT Europe had been first mentioned following the news that NXT UK was to be closed down, although a recent media call with Shawn Michaels had provided no update on the progress of the brand.

The card for NXT Battleground on Sunday, May 28 is as follows:

NXT Championship – Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker

NXT Women’s Championship – Lyra Valkyria vs. Tiffany Stratton

Heritage Cup Championship – Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee

NXT Tag Team Championship – Mark Coffey & Wolfgang (c) vs. Brutus & Julius Creed

North American Championship – Wes Lee (c) vs. Joe Gacy vs. Tyler Bate

Last Man Standing – Dijak vs. Ilja Dragunov
