When it comes to being a “draw” in WWE or otherwise, it’s about getting the most bums on the seats and, arguably, few stars fit that bill.
There’s an argument to be made that a large proportion of the wrestling audience, especially for a company like WWE, would buy a ticket to a show because they’re wrestling fans.
Some names, however, attract an audience beyond the “wrestling fan”.
This cross-market audience may just want to see a particular star perform.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer took a dive into this subject and how it relates to John Cena.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer explained:
“We always say, and it’s true, ‘It’s the brand and not the guy’, but John Cena is the exception.
“They’ve sold 4,000 tickets in Tampa since he was announced on that show, which is amazing.
“So he is the exception to the rule.
“If you’re wondering, ‘Is anyone a draw?’ – well, he is.”

It had recently been announced that John Cena would appear on the final WWE SmackDown of 2022, keeping his long-running appearance streak alive.
Fightful Select had also recently revealed that Cena may be making regular appearances on WWE SmackDown via “video presence.”
Recent reports have suggested that the plans may be uncertain due to Cena’s work schedule leading into WrestleMania.
