WWE Original Plans For John Cena Face Turn

WWE Original Plans For John Cena Face Turn WWE

The original plans for John Cena’s WWE babyface turn have been revealed, ahead of the decision to change plans.

John Cena turned heel for the first time in his career at WWE Elimination Chamber in March of last year, becoming face again in August on SmackDown, ahead of his match against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.

Having previously discussed criticism over his heel run, Cena has now revealed the original plans that would have seen him go back to being a face.

Speaking on The No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Cena revealed that his face turn was initially planned for SummerSlam, stating:

“Cody (Rhodes) was originally supposed to turn me at SummerSlam, like beat some sense into me, but the crowd turned me before that.

“(WWE) gave me Randy (Orton), they gave me (CM) Punk, I had the fun stuff with (R-)Truth. That little bit with Truth where I was going to hit him with the title, and there was a moment of like, ‘Dude, beat me, but do it with virtue,’ just sitting there, and the audience was like ‘Don’t hit him!’ Then I just kicked him in the nuts. Just those moments of like, ‘there’s still good in you.’

“We’re listening to all the data points of like, this is how they cheer for me against Randy, holy, they actually cheered the pipe bomb against Punk, I can’t believe that.

“Then the audience starts to want it, and the audience turned me. Many TVs before Jersey, but in Jersey, you want to fight the real John Cena? This is the day he’s back. “
