John Cena’s retirement year will take him through the whole of 2025, with Goldberg teasing a potential final WWE match of his own.
Goldberg has recently confirmed that his own retirement match would take place in 2025, taking place in WWE.
With Cena currently targeting Cody Rhodes ahead of WrestleMania 41 in April, Goldberg has teased a possible dream match.
Despite sharing time together in WWE, Goldberg revealed that he had never got to face John Cena in the ring.
Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed weighed up the possibility of getting a shot at Cena, saying:
“I never got a chance to get my hand around Cena’s throat. That might have been cool.
“There are a lot of people I would have loved to have faced back in the day, but the fact is, what does that do for the business now?
“A lot of people don’t even remember me that watch wrestling right now. A lot of people don’t know me because they speak negatively of me. I think I was an innovator of sorts. “
Why Cena was the first name Goldberg considered, he would go on to list Roman Reigns and Bron Breakker as potential WWE opponents, stating:
“There are a plethora (of people). I’d love to have a rematch with Roman (Reigns).
“There are so many guys that are so talented and on the cusp of stardom if not there yet, that are possibilities. Bron Breakker.”
While a date for the match is yet to be set, let alone an opponent, Goldberg set out his vision for his final encounter in a WWE ring, concluding:
“It’s a logical solution. It’s all in how the powers that be want to make it happen.
“We’ll figure it out and hopefully, at the end of the day, I’m able to present myself in a positive manner to where the people of today, who don’t remember me, will sure as frick remember me after they see me my last time, and it won’t be in a negative way.”
Goldberg and Cena were both entrants in the January 25, 2004, edition of the WWE Royal Rumble.
At Elimination Chamber in February 2022, Roman Reigns defeated Goldberg to retain the WWE Universal Championship in the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion’s last match to date.
