Steve Austin Shares Honest Thoughts On John Cena’s WWE Heel Turn

Steve Austin Shares Honest Thoughts On John Cena’s WWE Heel Turn WWE

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin has reacted to John Cena turning heel at WWE Elimination Chamber on March 1, 2025.

Thanks to the influence of The Rock, Cena turned heel for the first time in his career, attacking Cody Rhodes in the final moments of the WWE PLE.

Speaking on The Schmo, Austin reflected on the inevitability of the moment but weighed up whether fans would accept the character change, saying:

“It had to happen sooner or later. Finally it happened. So it’ll be interesting to see, you know, whether the people accept him as a heel or has he turned himself more babyface.”

With WWE heading towards WrestleMania 41 on April 19 & 20, 2025, Austin would also comment on the significance of the moment, stating:

“I think it remains to be seen as the story unfolds. Nonetheless, they’ve kicked off an epic build into WrestleMania. And that’s what they do every single year. And this year it’s here in Las Vegas, so it’s going to be pretty damn awesome.”

Someone who isn’t likely to be at WrestleMania 41 is Austin himself, who explained that he hadn’t been in contact with anyone in WWE for the upcoming PLE.

Austin did concede that, despite not being in contact with anyone, “anything can happen” with his current focus being on the Mint 400 off-road racing event.

Whatever the outcome of the heel turn, Cena remains with WWE until the end of his retirement year in December 2025.
