WWE Star Opens Up About Not Having One Last John Cena Match In 2025

A WWE star has opened up about not getting the opportunity to have one last match against John Cena in 2025, recalling their actual final bout together.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event saw GUNTHER defeat John Cena, bringing an end to the record-breaking champion’s in-ring career.

GUNTHER became Cena’s final opponent with a victory over LA Knight in the finals of the Last Time Is Now Tournament.

Also competing for a chance to face Cena was The Miz, although R-Truth would reveal that some subterfuge had taken place to get the A-Lister’s name into the mix, with the original choice making an appearance at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

While The Miz may not have got his chance to be Cena’s final opponent, he has shared his praise for the retired star in a post on Instagram, writing:

“All year, I kept saying I wanted one last match against John Cena. One more moment. One more rivalry. One last fight. But honestly…two years ago, the night after WrestleMania, I tagged with John Cena. And standing beside him in that ring…That was the perfect last match.

Not rivals. Not enemies. Teammates.

John was someone I learned this business from. Watching his work ethic. His preparation. His accountability. What it meant to carry a company on your back and still show up every night with pride.
Over time, that education turned into respect.
And that respect turned into something more, the chance to stand next to him as a peer.

Thank you for setting the standard. Thank you for pushing me to be better. Thank you for the moments, the lessons, and the legacy.

The match in question took place on the WWE Raw after WrestleMania 40 in April 2024, and saw The Miz and R-Truth team with John Cena to defeat Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor and JD McDonagh).

A late 2018 house show aside, The Miz was last in singles competition earlier that year on the February 12 episode of WWE Raw.

R-Truth has also recently shared his thoughts on John Cena’s retirement match, revealing his emotional reaction.
