Former WWE Star Opens Up About Backstage Heat After Brodie Lee Tweet AEW

Samuray Del Sol (fka WWE’s Kalisto) has addressed the controversy surrounding his Brodie Lee tweet following his AEW debut.

Samuray wrestled on the November 3, 2021 edition of Dynamite, teaming with Aero Star to unsuccessfully challenge for FTR’s AAA Tag Team Championship.

Following his match, the luchador thanked the late Brodie Lee/Jon Huber, tweeting:

Prayed and talked to John(Brodie lee) before my match..

thank you for showing me your home @AEW and giving me the strength and energy I need it today (praying emoji) forever your in my heart Hermano…

AEW star Chris Jericho and Jon’s widow Amanda Huber publicly took issue with Samuray’s tweet, with Jericho calling out Samuray for spelling Jon’s name wrong.

Speaking on The Sessions with Renée Paquette, Samuray opened up about the whole ordeal, noting that he found it hard to get work for a while following his AEW debut.

Discussing his mental health, Samuray said:

“For a while, I did feel like the door did close for me to get bookings after that (the tweet he sent out after AEW debut). I did kind of went into depression for a bit… I don’t know (if it was because of the tweet). I couldn’t get work.

“Some people thought it was for clout and I just always say, the boys know the boys. It’s okay. The kids are not there, the families are not there, the wives, the husbands are not there, whatever, you know?

“I just felt heartbroken and I’m like, you know what? I just pushed it aside, let’s keep going no matter what because I didn’t let that stop me after my depression because I had to reevaluate my life, reevaluate my thoughts, my mind, everything that I’d been through, that I worked for, I felt that it was taken away. But, again, lucha (he laughed).

Del Sol had opened up his relationship with Huber months before his AEW debut in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, recalling Huber helping him when he was struggling with his mental health.
