Kurt Angle Reveals Scrapped WrestleMania Plans

Kurt Angle Reveals Scrapped WrestleMania Plans WWE

Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has revealed WWE WrestleMania plans that would have led to something far bigger if they hadn’t been scrapped.

At WrestleMania XIX, Brock Lesnar defeated Kurt Angle to become a two-time WWE Champion.

In the new episode of The Kurt Angle Show (subscription required), Angle spoke about the change of plan, saying:

“I was supposed to have a nice long title reign for over a year.

“They were gonna keep that title on me and put the titles on Team Angle — the tag team titles — and have us doing what Roman Reigns and The Usos are doing right now.

“That’s what was planned.”

As appealing a pre-Bloodline version of The Bloodline may seem, plans had to be changed when Angle suffered a broken neck about a month before his WrestleMania match, necessitating a change of story and ushering in the second reign of Brock Lesnar.

Angle would reflect on the possibilities for Team Angle, a stable that lasted around six months in WWE, concluding:

“These factions, they become really popular.

“NWO, DX, and Team Angle.

“Like I said, we don’t belong in that category because we weren’t around long enough to get that kind of respect.

“But I felt that if we did, we’d be one of the greatest factions of all time.”

Angle opted for “clean up” surgery instead of the likelihood of retirement that would have resulted from a more significant operation and was brought back as a babyface, disbanding Team Angle as a result.
