A WWE Hall of Famer has revealed the realistic reason why TNA (now IMPACT Wrestling) wasn’t able to beat WWE.
Despite having a roster that included Sting, Kurt Angle, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair, TNA wasn’t able to become a serious threat to WWE’s dominance.
Angle would explain the reason why on his The Kurt Angle Show podcast while talking to Ken Anderson.
On the subject of TNA being serious competition, Anderson said:
“I always think there’s a possibility, right? I think that was what was so cool about working there.”
Anderson would also say that he put everything into the possibility of this goal.
Angle, by contrast, would explain:
“Now, me, I was more realistic. I thought we were special to begin with.
“I just didn’t think we’d ever be able to beat WWE … We just didn’t have the money.”
Angle would recall that Eric Bischoff booked several house shows with TNA having to foot the bill, noting:
“The money was going because we were trying to compete with WWE. We should’ve went at our own pace, at least for a few more years.”
Previously, Kurt Angle had revealed that Brock Lesnar had reached out to him about having a run in TNA, with the Olympic Gold Medalist saying that officials had told him that they’re “not going to give him that kind of money.”
Money doesn’t appear to be an issue for AEW, however, with Eric Bischoff recently calling the company Tony Khan’s “well-funded hobby.”
Impact Wrestling Under Siege takes place on May 26 2023 and will see Trinity (formerly WWE’s Naomi) in her second match for the company.
