When Brock Lesnar captured the WWE Championship at WWE Day 1, there was speculation amongst fans that WWE could be heading towards a title vs title match between Lesnar and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
Those plans were reportedly never in place, with WWE taking the championship off of Lesnar and putting it on Bobby Lashley back at the Royal Rumble.
However, with Lesnar’s addition to the WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match, the idea of title vs title has resurfaced. Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, several members of the WWE creative team believe that Vince McMahon will make the call to go with the title vs title match, hence Lesnar’s addition to the Chamber.
There were reportedly some internally, including Paul Heyman and Lesnar, who are pushing for it. Meltzer says the only thing told is that at press time, the course to WrestleMania is set regarding both titles, with a number of ‘twists and turns’ to come, with most of it presumably playing out at the Elimination Chamber.
The feeling internally was that Vince was leaning in the direction of title vs. title, which would mean the originally planned WWE title match for WrestleMania is now off.
