A new NXT Champion was crowned at NXT No Mercy last weekend, when Ilja Dragunov defeated Carmelo Hayes to capture the NXT Championship.

Dragunov became the first person to win both the NXT UK and NXT Championship with the victory, as Bron Breakker’s victory at World’s Collide is considered a unification, with Tyler Bate being recognised as the final NXT UK Champion.

One of the United Kingdom’s greatest wrestlers, Fit Finlay, was working backstage at NXT No Mercy, and Ilja took to Twitter earlier today to share a picture of he and Fit from the event captioned ‘European’.

Finlay responded with high praise for Ilja, simply stating:

. I would have loved to Wrestle this man

Finlay has served as a producer for the company for many years, with many female WWE stars crediting him for his work producing their matches during his time in NXT.

Dragunov’s first challenger for the NXT Championship was seemingly confirmed on this week’s episode of NXT, when he and Baron Corbin went face to face in a backstage segment.
