Former WWE Champion Explains Why He Will Likely Never Retire WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam has now commented on his in-ring future and potential retirement.

Rob Van Dam is still active on the independent scene, having wrestled several matches in 2023.

The 2021 WWE Hall of Fame inductee has now noted that he isn’t sure if he’ll ever retire.

Speaking on 1 Of A Kind With RVDRob Van Dam noted:

“I used to think I was going to retire a few years ago. I haven’t put a lot of thought into it.

“I just kind of figured semi-retired and I would probably just not pick up bookings anymore eventually or whatever, but now I don’t think I ever will.

“Why bother? I’ll probably be like Dory Funk Jr and just never retire. As much as I pride myself on being genuine and honest and I like to set an example by the way I live, I wouldn’t want to retire and then come back two years later and wrestle again like everybody does, but I don’t know that I would miss it and that’s why I thought it would be easy to do before because people always ask, ‘Do you miss it?’ ‘No.’ I’m still doing it.

“Maybe if I didn’t do it and I knew I wasn’t going to do it again, for sure I would have a different perspective, whatever it is, but instead, it’s the opposite.

“I have one match coming up for sure. I might have three before then that are on the developmental table, let’s say. Let’s see what happens there. That’s my thoughts on retirement anyway.”

Rob Van Dam last wrestled for WWE in 2014, facing Seth Rollins at a Main Event taping.

He recently appeared for the company in April to announce picks in the 2023 WWE Draft.

Rob Van Dam recently commented on the possibility of him serving as an onscreen authority figure, which you can read more about right here.
