WWE Live Results: August 5 – Pensacola, Florida

With Raw and NXT on the road this past weekend, Smackdown Live joined the party on Sunday night with a live event in Pensacola, Florida.

With SummerSlam looming on the horizon, the brand decided to give away their WWE Championship Match as the main event when AJ Styles defended the most prestigious title in wrestling today against Samoa Joe. Following a hard-fought contest which will undoubtedly dampen spirits for those in attendance to tune in on August 19, Styles retained and will move onto the blue brand tomorrow evening to answer his challenger’s accusations from last week.

In results from the rest of the show:

  • The New Day, the Usos, and R-Truth cracked the Bar and SAnitY in a 10-Man Tag Team Match. Xavier Woods wasn’t present on the show.
  • Tye Dillinger best Aiden English. Following the bout, English put out an open challenge saying that he didn’t come to lose. It was answered by Sin Cara.
  • Sin Cara overwhelmed Aiden English in seconds. The signs aren’t looking good for English again on the main roster.
  • Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair went over Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.
  • Rusev made short work of Andrade “Cien” Almas. According to all reports, this was fleeting, with Almas surrendering to the Accolade. It does not bode well for the former NXT Champion and only strengthens arguments that the company doesn’t know how to book excellent talent on the main roster.
  • The Bludgeon Brothers beat the Club to retain the Smackdown Live Tag Team Championships.
  • Daniel Bryan overcame Shelton Benjamin in the best match of the night.
  • Carmella survived Naomi and Asuka to retain the Smackdown Live Women’s Championship
  • Shinsuke Nakamura rolled over Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton to retain the WWE United States Championship. This match is expected to take place at SummerSlam with Orton being added to the mix in the next two weeks.
