Former UFC star Cain Velasquez is top of the list for a number of the world’s biggest wrestling promotions, with WWE and AEW both thought to be very keen on signing him.
He has made an appearance for AAA, but once his stint with them is done, it is thought that he will be looking elsewhere.
He has personally confirmed that he has been in contact with both WWE and AEW, but there is no word on what his decision is going to be.
WWE is particularly keen on Velasquez for one reason according to Dave Meltzer on MMA Fighting, and that is to book a match between him and Brock Lesnar.
As a former UFC Champion himself, Lesnar and Velasquez are in a slowly growing group of stars to have mastered both MMA and pro-wrestling, and a match between the two would be something WWE could push to the moon if the latter chose to sign for Vince McMahon’s company.
The two have previously met in the Octagon, a fight won by Velasquez, so there’s a ready made story that WWE could exploit.
The angle on last night’s Raw in which Lesnar beat up both Rey Mysterio and his son Dominick was reportedly in order to build to a potential fight with Velasquez, although no-one really seems to know how.
Velasquez does wrestle in a mask…so I guess he can use that as a way to say Brock disrespected a fellow luchador?
