WWE ‘Tried To Make A Play’ For Two AEW Stars WWE/AEW

WWE reportedly “tried to make a play” for AEW’s Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana before a new contract was publicly signed.

As recently reported, Strickland’s previous deal would have expired in March 2025 with negotiations underway during his AEW Championship reign.

During the Zero Hour pre-show for All In, a pre-taped segment was shown with Strickland putting pen to paper on a new deal with Tony Khan present.

Dave Meltzer has revealed that WWE were interested in securing both Strickland and Prince Nana in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, writing:

“Based on what we’ve been told, this deal locks him up through September 2029. It was well known that WWE tried to make a play for the Strickland & Prince Nana act. The deal was reportedly agreed to a few weeks back but they saved the announcement for here.

“People were talking about how Strickland has become a rich man with the new deal, and it’s believed to be among the biggest deals in pro wrestling although would be well below the Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton level.”

The previous report noted that Strickland’s deal is “considered one of the biggest deals in company history”.

Although he lost the AEW World Championship at AEW All In to Bryan Danielson, it was also noted that Strickland is expected to remain at the “top of the card” under his new deal.
