WWE has been signing some of the best wrestlers in the world from the independent scene over the last few years, but that could all be about to change.
Dave Meltzer noted in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE is now looking to revert back to signing “younger and bigger news”, writing:
While there will always be exceptions, when it comes to trying out talent, the directive from above has changed, wanting younger and bigger guys again, which was the only doctrine that got changed when they wanted to take the ROH thunder years ago when ROH got hot and was after the great workers who were often smaller, not necessarily old but not young (as defined as mid-20s or younger).
Much of this is probably down to the fact that the majority of top wrestlers are now signed by either WWE, AEW, IMPACT or NJPW, making it much harder for WWE to sign them unless they are out of contract.
