Report: Former WWE Star Offered AEW Contract

Report: Former WWE Star Offered AEW Contract WWE/AEW

ROH Final Battle takes place in the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on December 20, 2024 with former WWE star Matt Cardona taking on AEW’s Chris Jericho.

The feud between the pair began several weeks ago, and recently spilled over to GCW with Cardona being the victim of a surprise attack from Jericho.

Jericho has since commented on his appearance in GCW and what he did to Cardona.

With Cardona being a free agent, the former Zack Ryder may be heading to AEW on a more permanent basis according to Dave Meltzer.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, it’s been revealed that Cardona has been offered a contract, with Meltzer stating:

“I know he was offered a contract, I don’t know if he’s signed or anything. I guess maybe close.”

Cardona was released from his WWE contract in April 2020 due to COVID-19 related budget cuts and has gone on to have a successful independent wrestling career.

A former WWE United States Champion, he commented on his wife, Chelsea Green, becoming the first-ever WWE Women’s US Champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Green has previously stated that Cardona will “land where he’s meant to land” in response to comments about a potential WWE return.

Cardona has recently commented on the “highs and lows” of twenty years in wrestling and his goal should he make a WWE return.

We will provide further updates on Cardona’s future in AEW as/when more news becomes available.
