Controversial former WWE star Matt Riddle has used CM Punk’s past as a reason that he could make a return.
Riddle was released from his WWE contract on September 22, 2023, with the star making a statement on Twitter.
With a WWE higher-up reportedly stating that he had “burned through too many chances” during his time in the company, Riddle recently spoke about a potential return with Sports Illustrated.
Referencing CM Punk’s return to the company in November 2023 at WWE Survivor Series: WarGames, Riddle said:
“The chances of me going back, I think they’re extremely high.
“If CM Punk, who filed a lawsuit against WWE, and then raked them through the mud for a decade, then goes to the competition, I’ll tell you this, if he can do that, everything can be forgiven.
“I know I wasn’t the easiest to work with at times. I think the door is always open.
“I think the longer I’m away, the harder I work, and the more I do, the more likely I could come back. But I’ll also say this, if I never go back ever again, and they never talk to me again, I’ll be ok with that.”
Riddle signed with WWE in 2018, debuting on the October 31 episode of NXT and going on to hold the NXT Tag Team Championship with Pete Dunne.
He was drafted to Raw in the WWE Draft of 2020 and appear on the October 29 episode as simply Riddle going on to form RK-Bro with Randy Orton.
The pair would hold the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships on two occasions with Riddle also being a former WWE United States Champion.
