Former WWE Star ‘Perfectly Fine’ With Not Being A Wrestler Anymore

A former WWE star has addressed his in-ring status, revealing whether he considers himself retired, or if he could return for another match.

Maven was the winner of the first series of WWF Tough Enough, alongside Nidia, and would go on to a run in the company that would see him hold the Hardcore Championship three times.

With a potential return in backstage capacity being derailed by COVID-19, Maven has since gone on to be a successful YouTuber, covering wrestling topics to his growing audience.

During a recent appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Maven would reveal whether he feels he could have another match, saying:

“I mean, if the situation was right, of course. And last night, taking 70 bumps proved that physically, I could at least get through it.

“I don’t think if somebody said, Hey, we got a three-year storyline, I don’t know if I could do that, but I definitely would keep it open.

“As far as in this business, you know, never say never.”

Asked whether he still considers himself to be a wrestler, Maven would reveal how the answer to that has changed over title, explaining:

“No. In a grocery store a few months back, and normally somebody comes up to me (and says), ‘You’re that guy who won Tough Enough.’ Yeah, yeah. I had somebody come up to me and say, ‘You’re that guy that talks about wrestling and answers questions on YouTube, aren’t you?’ And I was like, I suppose I am. But I’m fine with that.

“I’m okay with ageing. I’m okay with I just can’t do what I used to do, and I’m okay with advancing into just the next parts of my life. I’ve watched these guys now. They’re so much more athletic than I was, and obviously am now.

“Yeah, I’m perfectly fine with not being a wrestler anymore.”

Although Maven’s WWE career ended in 2005, he would go on to an independent wrestling career, before taking a break in 2007.

His return in 2015 would see a small number of matches, with COVID-19 stopping any further bookings.

A return in 2021 has seen Maven compete on the independent wrestling circuit occasionally, with his last match being at ROW Last Stand Rumble in the titular 30-man rumble match in March 2024.
