Meiko Satomura is now in her retirement year but wanted another match against a current WWE champion having faced each other in 2021.
The former NXT UK Women’s Champion announced that she would be retiring in April 2025 with her last match taking place at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan for Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling.
During a recent interview with Sam Roberts, Lyra Valkyria was asked to name three matches fans could watch to get an understanding of the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
One of the matches was her NXT UK match from April 29, 2021, when the then-Aoife Valkyrie faced Satomura, highlights of which can be seen below this news story.
Satomura saw mention of the interview on Twitter and revealed that she wanted to face Valkyria again before she retired, tweeting:
“Ohhhh😃Valkyria 🔥I wanted to have one more match before my retiring‼️ @Real_Valkyria”
A number of the replies showed that there was fan support for Satomura facing Valkyria once more.
Satomura’s in-ring ‘swan song’ in WWE came at a live event in Tokyo Japan where she faced Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship in July 2024.
April 2025 will mark the end of a wrestling career that started in 1995 and saw her travel the world, including a run in WCW from 1996 to 1997.
She made her WWE debut in July 2018 in the Mae Young Classic and would sign with the company in October 2020, appearing in NXT UK.
Satomura’s last televised match was at WWE NXT Roadblock in March 2023 with her loss to Roxanne Perez who retained the NXT Women’s Championship.
Ahead of the aforementioned match against Bayley, Satomura teamed with Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Bayley to take on Tiffany Stratton and Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, IYO SKY & Kairi Sane) during the WWE SuperShow Summer Tour in Tokyo, Japan on 25 & 26 July, 2024.
She remains listed as an NXT star on the Superstars roster page of the official WWE website.
Satomura became NXT UK Women’s Champion in June 2021, holding the title until her loss to Mandy Rose at the September 2022 Worlds Collide event which saw the championship unified with the NXT Women’s Championship.
