Former WWE Champion Officially Retires WWE

A former WWE champion has officially retired after an international career that spanned thirty years, including an early run in WCW.

Meiko Satomura has been a fixture in wrestling since 1995 and featured on WCW television in the following year.

With her final match having been confirmed as taking place on April 29, in Japan, that monumental moment has now occured.

The former NXT UK Women’s Champion had her final match at the iconic Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, teaming with Manami to take on the team of Aja Kong and Chihiro Hashimoto.

The Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling match saw Satomura and Manami victorious over their opponents, with Kenta Kobashi presenting a bouquet of flowers to the retiring star before the match.

It didn’t end there for Satomura, either, with Aja Kong taking the mic after the match and asking to team up with Satomura.

The pair have been long-standing rivals but teamed for one final match against Hashimoto, Senka Akatsuki, Takumi Oroha, YUNA and Mika Iwata.

The impromptu match came to an end with a five-minute draw to crown the end of Satomura’s career.

Satomura signed with WWE in October 2020, having previously competed in the second Mae Young Classic in July 2018.

Initially drafted to NXT UK, Satomura would appear on NXT 2.0 in August 2022 and would have final match on the brand in March 2023 in a loss to Roxanne Perez.

The WWE SuperShow Summer Tour of Japan saw Satomura have her final match with the company, losing to the WWE Women’s Champion Bayley on the July 27, 2024, Ryogoku Kokugikan house show in Tokyo, Japan.

WWE producer Shane Helms reflected on Satomura’s career, noting her professionalism and respect for the business.

Satomura’s career has seen her hold a number of championships, including being the inaugural (and two-time) Sendai Girls World Championship, a former World of Stardom Champion and the KO-D Openweight Championship.

She was the final WWE NXT UK Women’s Champion, holding the championship from June 10, 2021, until her loss at Worlds Collide in September 2022 in which the title was unified with the NXT Women’s Championship.

The match saw Mandy Rose victorious over Satomura and Blair Davenport at the event which marked the last event for the NXT UK brand.
