WWE Mixed Match Challenge second season teams announced

WWE Mixed Match Challenge second season teams announced

It has been confirmed by WWE that there will be a second season of the Mixed Match Challenge, that will start on Tuesday, September 18, straight after SmackDown Live.

Much like the inaugural season, five teams each from Raw and SmackDown will compete in head-to-head competition… hang on a second… Survivor Series was a lie, pass it on.

Anyway, the series will consist of 14 30-minute episodes, that will be streamed on Facebook Watch, and matches will be contested under traditional mixed tag team rules.

Unlike the previous season, there has been no charity cash award announced for the winners of the tournament. Last year, Asuka and The Miz earned $100,000 for Rescue Dogs Rock.

The five teams from Raw this year include one tandem carried over from last season, in semi finalists Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman, also known as ‘Team Little Big.’

The second team consists of Bobby Lashley and Sasha Banks. Banks was partnered with Finn Bálor last time around, as – like Bliss and Strowman – ‘Boss Club’ made the semi finals.

This will be Bobby Lashley’s Mixed Match Challenge debut.

Finn Bálor and Bayley make their MMC returns. Bálor teamed with the aforementioned Sasha Banks last time, whereas Bayley ‘walked with’ Elias.

The final two Raw pairs are Jinder Mahal with Alicia Fox, and the all-Canadian team of Natalya and Kevin Owens.

On the SmackDown Live side of things, there are three returning pairs.

They are last year’s winners The Miz and Asuka, and husband and wife couples Rusev and Lana, and Jimmy Uso and Naomi.

The new pairings for the blue brand are WWE Champion AJ Styles with WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, and the very entertaining – and seemingly now aligned – duo of R-Truth and Carmella.

Mixed Match Challenge is an attempt by WWE to get down with the kids by providing fun and interactive content via the means of social media.

This is highlighted in the following except from WWE.com:

Each season 2 episode will reflect a progressive approach to production, with elements optimized for mobile consumption, experimentation and social interaction, including the ability for fans to engage with Superstars during the show. Fans will have the opportunity to vote to impact and influence the show for all 14 episodes on Facebook throughout the season.

The unique storylines for Mixed Match Challenge season 2 will continue between episodes across WWE’s Facebook Pages with short-form videos and social content. WWE will also promote and recap the series across its extensive digital and social footprint, including on the Mixed Match Challenge Facebook Watch Page.
