Pay-per-views have a certain grandeur about them, and that’s not only due to the frequent title defenses that take place.
There’s no better way to give the crowd something to cheer about than bringing back a former star, particularly if that star is a former Money in the Bank winner and two-time victor over AJ Styles.
That’s right, James Ellsworth is rumored to be making his WWE return at this weekend’s Money in the Bank PPV, a show he infamously “took part in” last year, unclipping the women’s briefcase and handing it to Carmella…but we don’t talk about that anymore.
PWInsider reported on June 11th that Ellsworth was rumored to be making his return to the company that he departed in November 2017.
Since his departure, Ellsworth has appeared on several indie shows, and has won the Intergender World Championship.
Given that this weekend is Money in the Bank, the most natural possibilities are Ellsworth getting involved in Carmella vs. Asuka or even potentially the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match itself.
There had been a spanner in the works for a potential return, as Ellsworth had been booked to defend his title at a Middle Kingdom Wrestling show in China.
However, Middle Kingdom has now released the following statement and speculation for a WWE return has been turned up a notch.
“James Ellsworth was scheduled to appear this weekend (June 16/17, 2018) in Harbin, China, as part of
Middle Kingdom Wrestling presents EYES ON THE PRIZE and an MKW Meet ’n Greet party. This booking has been in place since February.James Ellsworth informed us last night that he will not be traveling to China. This news came after repeated attempts by MKW management to contact Ellsworth over the last six days to confirm travel arrangements
On behalf of MKW, I would like to apologize to the fans who bought tickets with the intention of seeing James Ellsworth wrestle and meeting him in person at the MKW Meet ’n Greet event. MKW is disappointed by the actions of James Ellsworth, especially at the late nature of the cancellation.”
