While initially showing promise of potentially becoming a main eventer in the company, Mustafa Ali’s WWE career has been largely one of misuse and frustration on both his side as well as his fans.
This dissatisfaction saw Ali make public his desire to leave the company in late 2021, however, he was never granted his release, instead eventually returning in spring 2022 and featuring regularly on TV since.
Unfortunately however, Ali has often been on the losing side of matches since his return and not pushed to realise the potential that many believe he is capable of.
Discussing his booking and his desire for growth in the company Ali told Wrestlesphere:
“You can take it to the next level, not just for you but for the company. At the end of the day, you’re looking to grow, so when that gets stopped there’s frustration that comes with it.
“There’s anger. Again, it all stems from passion. I’m a passionate guy, I love what I do and I want to do more of it.”
Despite the largely poor booking of Ali in the last 12 months, his fortunes have seemingly turned around, adopting a new ‘positive’ character that has paid off with frequent TV time and some major victories.
As a result of winning an over-the-top-rope number one contenders battle royal on the May 15 Raw, Ali will be faced with the challenge of dethroning dominant Intercontinental Champion Gunther at the Night of Champions event on May 27.
The match will be Ali’s first shot at singles gold since Hell in a Cell 2022 where he challenged Austin Theory for the United States Championship.
Elsewhere in his interview with Wrestlesphere Ali would open up on comments made to him by Paul Heyman and how they reflect his status in WWE, to read more follow this link here.
