WWE/AEW
A former WWE and TNA Wrestling name was backstage at AEW Dynasty on April 6, 2025, at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia.
Having served as a commentator in WWE before heading to TNA Wrestling, Josh Mathews departed TNA Wrestling in February 2025.
Recently, it was reported that Mathews had been seen backstage at a March episode of AEW Dynamite.
Mathews was, once more, backstage at AEW, this time at the April 6 pay-per-view, according to Dave Meltzer.
In his AEW Dynasty backstage notes, Meltzer states that the real-life Josh Lomberger worked backstage at the show.
The report also notes that Madison Rayne, Mathews’ wife, has worked for AEW for several years.
Rayne signed with AEW in August 2022, initially as a coach for the women’s division and currently also as a producer.
Mathews was a runner-up in the first season of WWE Tough Enough back in 2001, going on to serve as a backstage interviewer on SmackDown and announcer on Velocity.
His WWE duties would expand to include commentary, with Mathews eventually being released by the company in June 2014.
He would move to TNA Wrestling later that year, initially in an office role, before moving back to being in front of the cameras.
