A WWE name has revealed they were ‘bummed’ when they didn’t have to undergo a name change when joining the company.
When most people sign with WWE nowadays, they undergo a name change, with the company then trademarking the new ring name for the wrestler.
This was the case back in 2016, when backstage interviewer Cathy Kelley joined the company, though she was not someone who underwent a name change.
However, speaking to the Lightweights podcast, Cathy said that she was prepared to change her name after joining the company, even pitching to be the niece of Michael Cole.
She said:
“I was actually really bummed when I got to WWE. I was fully prepared to change my name and they were like, ‘No, we love it.’ ‘My legal name, Cathy Kelley?’ ‘Yeah, you’re not changing it.’
“I had a list of names. I was going to be Cathy Cole, I was going to be Michael Cole’s niece or something, in my mind. They shot it down and were like, ‘No, you get to keep your name,’ which in retrospect is actually pretty cool.”
